A Godly Man In Times Like This

Genesis 6:1-9 [Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. Then the Lord] saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Noah Pleases God. This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.]

Genesis 18:17-19 [ And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing,  since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” And the Lord said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave, I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me; and if not, I will know.” Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord. And Abraham came near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?]

A Christian is a person who goes to church. That’s the native description. However, a godly man is a man with integrity. A godly man can be assessed by his conduct and his relationship with God – that’s a man with integrity and honor, who is living his life according to the word of God. He shows love to his family, friends, and church of God and encourages people to love. These are men that God Himself can showcase – that these are men after His heart, that walk after the Lord.

In the midst of corruption and perversion, God identified Noah. What times are we in? Same as that of people in Noah and Abraham’s times. In the midst of all these, God is looking for a man that can represent Him and His kingdom.

Both Noah and Abraham were men that God loved.

In Genesis 15 God made a covenant with Abraham. Even when Abraham failed to understand the concept of His love, God knew this was a man that feared him. He knew that Abraham will teach his children. These days’ fathers have left the training their children to teachers in school, and mothers at home.

There should be a semblance of what the father is in his children. This is what is expected from parents & fathers in this generation.

In this time, we find ourselves in an economic recession. People can do anything now for money. Anything. People are willing to die for money. There’s a spirit of desperation in the air. Statistics show that children now beg on the streets more than the parents. Meaning the roles have been reversed, now the children are bringing in money.

When these roles are reversed it means God Himself has to come down and make corrections – and that is terrible.

We are in an economic recession where purchasing power has been depleted. There is corruption everywhere – in the workplace especially. These are the times we are in and God is looking for godly men that can stand in these times.

God was able to describe Noah Himself. He said Noah was a just man – a man of integrity, a man that is no respecter of persons. Men ought to be so – in the home and community at large. There’s a place of perfection because God called Noah perfect. For us to exhibit our godliness, that we are men that understand the times, we have to walk closely with God so that God will have a testimony for us. What God is looking in our days is people like Noah and Abraham that can show and live by example. Men that can showcase the righteousness of God.

We have to be ready and able to impose their positions on earth. We have to be men of influence. When a man loses the place of responsibility, he loses influence.

God wants us to occupy places of power. Everywhere. By the time we get to these echelons of power we must be men that show forth godliness.

The godly man is a task – not a title. It’s not by mouth, it’s by how you demonstrate it. People will see it and declare it on your behalf.

God’s expectation of every one of us is that we must be light – influencers.

A godly man takes positions of leadership.

He doesn’t wait for titles. He steps up when the need arises. Psalms 101 [I will sing of mercy and justice; To You, O Lord, I will sing praises.I will behave wisely in a perfect way. Oh, when will You come to me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not know wickedness. Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, Him I will destroy; The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, Him I will not endure. My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, That they may dwell with me; He who walks in a perfect way, He shall serve me. He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who tells lies shall not continue in my presence. Early I will destroy all the wicked of the land, That I may cut off all the evildoers from the city of the Lord.]
David was a man who took responsibility. A godly man must be willing and ready to take responsibility. Nothing happens within their circle of influence without their knowledge.

I will do it. I will not delegate it.

Men have to understand the responsibility placed on them. God is looking for a man – a man ready to take action, a man who is not docile.

When they are in the midst of people committing sin, in the midst of people not doing things right – they talk. A godly man is to challenge what is not right.
Romans 1:16 [For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.] People cannot go out to evangelize anymore because they cannot speak out.
  3. A GODLY MAN STANDS STRONG: Challenges will come.

But a man will stand strong in the days of adversity, in the face of challenges.

They that know their God shall be strong and do exploit. Jesus said, ‘These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.’ (John 16:33). As men that know who they are, we challenge our challenges. A godly man, a Christian man is expected to stand strong and not to fall in the face of challenges. Scripture says ‘If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.’ In Proverbs 24:10.

  4. A GODLY MAN STAYS HUMBLE: He is not proud. He does not vaunt himself above others despite what he has.

A humble man can easily influence others.

But he giveth more grace. James 4:6 [Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble] Proverbs 3:5 [Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.]

He creates time for God. God is at the center of his life. He takes his entire household along – not just himself.

Joshua 24:15 [And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.]

It might be difficult due to the pressures of the times we are BUT with the help of the Spirit of God, a godly man will stand.

There’s a call upon our lives as fathers and brothers that He is looking for a man to stand in the gap on behalf of the people.

  1. God will be proud of you.

Case in point Noah and Abraham. What is the testimony of God concerning my life? Job 1:8 [And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there isnone like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?] What is God saying about my life right now? He can be proud of me if I am godly.

  2. God will bestow good things to the godly man.

  3. God will reward the godly man here on earth and in the world to come.

Luke 18:28-30 [Then Peter said, “See, we have left all and followed You.” So He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.”]

In this time, the vacancy of God is still vacant and the people God is looking for are those outlined above.
